2ANNAS 2024 Industry Days program 2ANNAS FORUM announces applications for the Emerging Critics Workshop! For the first time during 2ANNAS FORUM, from 7 to 11 April, 2024, three selected participants from the Baltic countries will have an opportunity to participate in a four-day intensive workshop led by established film critic and journalist Tara Karajica.

For the 2ANNAS festival, short and medium-length films of various genres are invited to be submitted to the International Short Film Competition, the Baltic Short Film Competition, the International Medium-Length Film Competition and the International Children and Youth Competition.

At the 27th Riga International Short Film Festival "2ANNAS," held from April 7th to 13th, the jury awarded the Grand Prix - the "Bronze Anna" statuette - to the documentary short film "Neighbor Abdi" by Dutch director Douwe Dijkstra. Meanwhile, the best film in the Baltic Short Film Competition was recognized as the feature film "Dear Passengers" by Estonian director Madli Lääne, which received the "Plaster Anna" award.

From April 7th to 13th, the International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS, one of the most important such events in the Baltics, will take place at cinemas Kino Bize and K. Suns as well as the culture centre M/Darbnica. This year, the festival will be happening for the 27th time and its main theme will be “Body and Flesh”, exploring the limits of the human body and the senses. In total, more than 100 short films from 25 countries will be screened at this year's festival.

With the 45th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival - the largest short film festival and market in the world - kicked off on Friday 27th January, that was graced by a large Baltic presence as filmmakers, festivals and industry from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

The Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS took place a month ago. Viewers were offered high-quality and diverse cinema on from around the world on the focus topic of this year 's festival - Human. At the temporary home of the Kaņepes Kultūras centrs in Diagonāle, at the RSU Anatomy Museum, at the KSuns cinema and online, visitors were greeted by competition and focus short film programs, competitions, parties, professional meetings and discussions.

On May 13 and 14 in Tukums, in the yard of TukkuMaggi, it will be possible to watch short films awarded by the Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS. More than 2,000 films were submitted to the festival, and the best international, Baltic, medium-length films, as well as short films for children and young people, were selected in four different competition programs. This will be a great opportunity to watch excellent movies from all over the world and a wide range of topics will allow everyone to find something relevant to them.

On May 6th and 7th, the 7th velo and film festival “KINO PEDĀLIS” was held in Valmiera, where visitors were able to enjoy short-film festival 2ANNAS's specially prepared film programmes, delicious sweets and a warm evening. KINO NAKTS short films could be viewed in unique places like Valmieras stikla šķiedra, Pauku priedes, kultūrtelpa “Kurtuve”, Krāču kakta šķūnis and koncertzāle “Valmiera”.

The winner of the Baltic competition was announced during the 2ANNAS ISFF 2022 edition’s awards ceremony. 2ANNAS team together with our prize sponsors and partners in crime BBRental / BBPosthouse declared the winner – film „Sierra” – and provided the director Sander Joon with an opportunity to rent full-service professional filming equipment or to benefit from their post-production services, worth 2000 EUR.

The awards ceremony took place on 13 April at the cultural centre Kaņepes Kultūras Centrs - Diagonāle. Awards in multiple categories (Grand Prix, best fiction, best animation, best documentary short, best Baltic short, best mid-length film) were announced during the closing ceremony of the 26th Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS. Youth and children's short film competition films were judged and announced by the spectators.

The 26th Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS (8 – 14 April) is about to commence. Artificial Intelligence (AI), queers and transhumanism are just a few of the thought-provoking topics depicted in this year’s festival program. Diverse and high-quality films, both in form and in content, will offer challenging, reflective and philosophical takes on the main subject matter – HUMAN. The festival’s screenings and thought-provoking conversations will take place at Kaņepes Kultūras centrs – Diagonāle (Skolas iela 14), KSuns cinema (Elizabetes iela 83/85) and online via the festival’s online platform. For the fifth year in a row, 2ANNAS ISFF offers film programs designed especially for young audiences. Not only that the youngsters can watch shorts, but they can also take part in jury duty by becoming jury members. They are the main film reviewers. International Children’s and Youth Short Film Competition will take place at the cinema hall KSuns and online.

2ANNAS Industry days will take place from April 12 to 13. This year's Industry Days will focus on a complex and pressing issue weighing down the whole film industry. Setting all the prejudices aside, together with industry professionals we will seek answers and aim to identify problems, reasons and possible solutions for bettering the working conditions on and off the film set.

A documentary / experimental film “The Last Hour” created by Argentine directors was recognized as the best film and received the Grand Prix Award – the Golden Anna statuette created by the sculptor Aigars Zemītis. Meanwhile, the Lithuanian director's feature film “Places” took the Baltic short film competition and received a Gypsum Anna statuette and an award from BBPostHouse and BBRental - rental of filming equipment and the opportunity to post-process films worth 2000 EUR.

On April 9 at 20:00, live from the Splendid Palace cinema, at the opening event of the Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS "The Intimate World of Plants" and the artist Sabine Moore aka The Waterflower will take you on a spectacular journey where you can enjoy a unique visual adventure, music created by real mushrooms, and a dreamy sense of wonder. On April 10 of this year, Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS invites you to join online screenings, watch short films and vote for your favourite in the children's and youth film categories. It is the young viewers who can decide which film wins the award. Both film programs were created by Swiss film and theatre teacher and artist Ron Rosenberg. Various stories, animations, feature films, fiction, and real events - everyone can engage and bat around socially responsible topics. Also on April 10, the awarding of the youth short film competition “Earth – our home” will take place.

Current trends, discussions and inspirational stories – this is what 2ANNAS offers for both film professionals and young talents on April 12 and April 13 within the programme of industry events. In collaboration with Short Film Conference, an organisation uniting the global short film community, everyone is invited to join 2ANNAS FORUM: “Can we be green? – Film industry example”. Moreover, two European short film initiatives will be presented to promote and distribute short films in cooperation with the Creative Europe MEDIA Desks Latvia and NRW (North Rhine Westphalia).

Next week, on April 9, the 25th Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS will be opened, offering viewers to watch exciting competition programmes online, showcasing both acclaimed works as well as new and experimental films. Along with the competition programmes, since 2013 the festival has also been developing thematic non-competition programmes, created as research on a chosen topic in which cinema is a scientific discipline. This year, the focus of the 2ANNAS festival is ZEME (EARTH) (within the 2020-2022 cycle SPACE, EARTH and HUMAN). The five original focus film programmes will be submitted to the audience for evaluation and reflection.

At a time when people's daily lives are crowded with visual information and it is not possible to enjoy culture in person, 2ANNAS festival in cooperation with Radio NABA wants to provide an opportunity to get acquainted with its history, programmes and current events in an audial way. Designed as a special dedication to the 25th anniversary and the history of short films in Latvia, in the talks and experimental sections the podcast will feature directors, festival curators, programme directors, jury members and film scholars. " Two Annas talking " is a journey into the world of cinema and its often-mythical processes.

Within the cycle of lectures and talks ZEME (“Earth”), Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS together with the Institute of Environmental Solutions (IES) organizes the closing discussion of the cycle "Connect to Habitat". The participants will explore how and whether learning about different artists' works and perspectives can change our relationship with the environment. The discussion will be available on the festival's official Facebook page "2Annas ISFF" on Thursday, March 25, at 18.00.

On April 10 2021 we invite children and young people to join the Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS online, watch short films and vote for their favorite in the children's and youth film categories. It is the young viewers who will decide which film will win the award.

The main prize of the creative challenge “Tukums 48h cinema community in Cineville” was awarded to the film “Cirtenis” on September 20, the organizers of the event informed. In the 48-hour short film challenge, filming in the cinema town of Cinevilla and Tukums region, teams of 10 participants had to make a short film on the topic of “virtual man”

In a solemn atmosphere, in the presence of an international jury of professionals, directors, and guests, 9 awards were presented at the Cannabis Cultural Center on the evening of 15 February to participants in the Short Film Festival 2ANNAS. In the International Awards, 65 new, great films were selected from a selection of 2,654 entries from around the world. The French film "Naked in the Streets at Night", directed by Benoit Rambourg, was awarded the Grand Prix and the Golden Anna statue by the sculptor Aigars Zemitis and the 1000 EUR cash prize from the Latvian Mobile Phone.
